I've recently re-visited and am absolutely loving an album called Lido by Clearlake. Its so evocative of life in England without resorting to cliches. Who'd have thought a song about going to a car boot sale could bring a tear to the eye.
"we'll be like two millionaires going out on a spree
we'll know that it won't break the banks cos it costs just 10p"
so here are a couple of other hidden gems that I feel it is my musical evangelical duty to plug;
Tram - "Heavy Black Frame" its the sound of twilight, the light might be growing gloomy but there's still some of the days warmth radiating.
Tim Hardin - Simple Songs of Freedom. Simple in a way that everyone should be capable of but so few people are. The song 'goodbye Hank williams' could have be written 30 years later for our generation in response to the loss of Kurt

"goodnight hank williams my friend
I never knew you but I've been to places you've been."
Annie - Anniemal. The norwegian chantuese who I love for her catchy tunes and not because she is mesmerisingly attractive!
Neutral Milk Hotel - In the Areoplane over the Sea. Granted songs inspired by the plight of Anne Frank and the holocaust could be unbearably grim but this proves the contrary. magic.
what hidden gems could you share for the benefit of the 3 or 4 other people who happen to read Muxloe's Musings (and oh how grateful I am for your indulgence friends!!!!!) answers in a comment please.

Dr. Dog - Easybeat.
This could be a lost Beatles album. If they had a couple of days were they realised that they were all best mates and Ringo had just got some weed in that made you giggle a lot.
Jason Molina - Letmegoletmegoletmego
Last night I dreamt he was Bob Dylan's nephew. No one does lonesome like this guy.
The Devil and Daniel Johnston - a brilliant film, documenting the battle between artistic genius and insanity. Should be watched!
obviously ringo kept the good stuff all to himself, hence wanting to be under the sea in an octopus's garden in the shade......with a star bar and grab bag of doritos!

I'm not sure how hidden it is, but I can highley recommend a listen to any of Jim O'Rourkes solo albums.
Again, not really a hidden gem (the guy's signed to NinjaTunes), but if you like beats and good times then check out a fella called BLOCKHEAD.
perhaps they're not in hiding but nevertheless they could be wearing some kind of invisible cape or be made from the same material as stealth bombers because neither have shown up on my radar.....but will do now.
