MM on meeting members of the Muxloe clan

Muxloe's Musings is not meant to be an exclusive affair. I don't live in a bubble. So I felt it was time to introduce other members of the Muxloe clan. Meet my sister-in-law ITgeek, wife of my brother 'eric is bananaman'. They've been looking after a puppy recently, as you'll see the little scamp has created quite an attachment to ITgeek.

MM on SADness and the time of your

Hhhhhmmmmm its that time of year when everyone is feeling a bit gloomy. Symptoms seem to be sleep problems, lethargy, overeating, irritability, anxiety and loss of libido. You'd be forgiven for thinking this must be due to smoking too much of the wacky baccy but you'd be wrong, its down to seasonal affective disorder (SAD). This explains my lack of enthusiasm for posting musings over the last the week or so....apologies friends. I'll be back when I've grown accustomed to the lack of light and cold weather - in the meantime keep on keeping on all you SAD people.

MM on orphans.....

Last year I visited a boys orphanage in Sri Lanka. After handing out some sweets and premiership football stickers a few of the boys lined up to sing 'I'm a little tea pot' complete with all the actions.

This morning the orphanage was hit by a bomb dropped from a jet plane. Still the politicians talk......

"and these children that you spit on
as they try to change their world
are immune to your consultations
they're well aware of what they're going through"

MM on hidden gems to be found in jumble sales.....

I've recently re-visited and am absolutely loving an album called Lido by Clearlake. Its so evocative of life in England without resorting to cliches. Who'd have thought a song about going to a car boot sale could bring a tear to the eye.
"we'll be like two millionaires going out on a spree
we'll know that it won't break the banks cos it costs just 10p"

so here are a couple of other hidden gems that I feel it is my musical evangelical duty to plug;

Tram - "Heavy Black Frame" its the sound of twilight, the light might be growing gloomy but there's still some of the days warmth radiating.

Tim Hardin - Simple Songs of Freedom. Simple in a way that everyone should be capable of but so few people are. The song 'goodbye Hank williams' could have be written 30 years later for our generation in response to the loss of Kurt
"goodnight hank williams my friend
I never knew you but I've been to places you've been."

Annie - Anniemal. The norwegian chantuese who I love for her catchy tunes and not because she is mesmerisingly attractive!

Neutral Milk Hotel - In the Areoplane over the Sea. Granted songs inspired by the plight of Anne Frank and the holocaust could be unbearably grim but this proves the contrary. magic.

what hidden gems could you share for the benefit of the 3 or 4 other people who happen to read Muxloe's Musings (and oh how grateful I am for your indulgence friends!!!!!) answers in a comment please.

MM on the leaves that are green turning brown....

This season I am now the oldest regular in my football team - a veteran of the game who in football parlance relies on having that extra yard of experience in my head to compensate for the loss of two yards of pace from my legs!

In this role as the old bull I've been passing on some tips and imparting some of the wisdom and 'know how' to the young bulls. Last week one of the whipper snappers was complaining that his boots were still caked in mud from the week before. I explained to him that if you use your dirty sock at the end of the game you can give your boots a quick polish so that they are fresh for the following week.......the first yard is always in your head!

what tips or wisdom would you pass on to those with less experience than you.....please tell in a comment
